Arts Entrepreneurship Minor

Program Info

The arts entrepreneurship minor is a 21 credit hour program meant to equip you with the survival skill set you need to run your own business and take charge of your own branding.

You will learn how to recognize creative opportunities, develop artistic products and promote yourself throughout the region and beyond.

  • Product development
  • Promotion & visual branding
  • Client & audience analysis
  • Pricing models
  • Bookkeeping & cash flow planning
  • Cultivating financial support through grants, loans & crowd sourcing platforms
  • Recognizing and seizing opportunities
  • Presentations by professionals in the field

Students will complete 21 hours of coursework focused on the following:

  • Arts administration
  • Arts entrepreneurship
  • Finance & business
  • Legal issues
  • Management
  • Marketing & communication

In addition to focusing on management, finance, public relations, marketing and legal coursework, the minor develops foundational knowledge and skills relating to arts and social sector non-profit organizations. These skills include community organizing and advocacy; grant writing and fundraising; volunteer development and board relations; educational, cultural programming and access; strategic planning and governance structures; and organizational and program assessment.

Professional practice is embedded into the minor, including field experiences through a practicum tailored to students’ interests and service learning.

Accreditations

This is not a degree program - it is a minor, but it compliments a variety of degrees in the humanities, including art, music, and theatre.
Arts Entrepreneurship Minor

You will acquire the skills needed to create your own market-based opportunities in the arts. For instance, you could do one of the following:

  • Launch a gallery
  • Own your own dance company
  • Teach art classes
  • Run a music studio
  • Understand how and where to find freelance work
